How to dose CBD oil: 3 things to consider

CBD oil is on the second step of the podium of the products containing CBD the most consumed, after flowers and in front of the e-liquids for electronic cigarettes. Obtained by extraction of cannabidiol from the cannabis plant, these oils differ from cannabis oil or hemp oil by their manufacture as well as by the parts of the plant used for their extraction.

In France, CBD oils contain little or no THC (less than 0.3%, in accordance with the decision of the Council of State of January 24, 2022), which makes them non-psychoactive, but their level of CBD - this natural cannabinoid - is high. In short, these products do not make you "high" but allow consumers to benefit from the effects of these natural phytochemicals impacting memory, cognitive performance, pain perception, stress management, mood regulation, the peripheral nervous system and the immune system.

It is also one of the products whose effects are felt most quickly, depending on the mode of consumption.

But once you've made your choice of CBD product, the question arises: how do you properly dose the CBD oil drops for yourself? What is the right dosage?

YOUR support: OUR priority.

Accompanying priority

Each individual is unique and will react differently to CBD use. That said, there are a number of factors that need to be taken into account when assessing the amount of CBD in mg that can be used:

- the composition and method of manufacture of the oil (which greatly impact its quality!),

- how to use it,

- the weight of the consumer and his expectations in terms of effects.

First and foremost, it is important to understand that quality support is necessary when using CBD products. Indeed, some of the products derived from CBD allow an improvement of daily well-being in different fields.

This is why Naturalpes has chosen to accompany its customers and its network of partners distributing the products, including pharmacies, taking into consideration the specificity of each case with the help of a follow-up sheet for customers, while offering cannabinoid-based solutions tailored to each.

1) The composition and method of production of the oil

What is CBD oil made of?

Dosing CBD oil

The pharmacological properties of the cannabis plant are found in Naturalpes CBD oils thanks to the cannabinoid-rich hemp extracts but also thanks to the presence of terpenes. You may have noticed this word, often used to describe the quality of a product containing CBD. These are actually chemical molecules that bind to different receptors in the body, creating potential health benefits. The different components of legal cannabis will "work together" to enhance the potential benefits of CBD, amplifying the effects. This is known as the entourage effect.

Dr. Ethan Russo, former medical advisor to GW Pharmaceuticals, co-founder of CReDO Science, a research and development company, has published several studies on the entourage effect, such as the 2011 study "Exploring the 'Entourage Effect' With Dr. Ethan Russo".

"The entourage effect was first described around endocannabinoids. Researchers observed that inactive chemicals placed with compounds such as CBD significantly increased the anti-inflammatory effects. And that's what the entourage effect is all about: the overall effect is more powerful than the individual components," he explains.

Please note: the entourage effect is found in full spectrum oils.

How do you get quality CBD oil?

Extracting and preserving the cannabinoids from the plant is a crucial step in ensuring quality CBD oil. Among the most common extraction techniques, there are the following three:

  • using ethanol (the simplest, which allows large quantities to be extracted, but which requires good extraction of the solvents, which is rarely done),
  • in macerate (mainly used for creams and ointments),
  • or by using CO2 (the plants are passed through CO2 gas for ten hours, this is the most expensive and complex method, but it is also the most environmentally friendly and the one that produces the purest CBD oil).

At Naturalpes, this method of extraction has been chosen for the entire production of the oils. The oils are produced from a mother paste called "Crude oil" or more commonly "Full Spectrum", which contains all the cannabinoids present in the plant.

After the CO2 extraction, a different processing for each Naturalpes product

Since its creation, Naturalpes has chosen to offer solutions adapted to the needs of each user

  • The Raw range of oils is specifically recommended for daily use or for chronic problems. This range can be used over a period of time ranging from 15 days to several months. It is the first extraction of the plant and contains all the cannabinoids in acid form (CBD-a, THC-a etc), as well as all the plant material (flavonoids, lipids, and chlorophyll). It is the most raw oil that Naturalpes offers.
  • The Gold range of oils is extracted in the same way as the Raw (Co2) range, also retaining all the cannabinoids. Unlike CBD Raw oil, the first extraction of the plant is heated (decarboxylation) in order to activate the acidic molecules into neutral molecules (CBD-a into CBD, THC-a into THC...) and the plant material is removed by a technique called winterisation. Gold oils are to be used in case of crisis, sudden uneasiness, difficult moments, or spontaneous reactions of the body.
  • The Wellness range of oils still corresponds to the first extraction of the plant, except that once it has been heated and purified (Gold range), a fractional distillation is carried out to allow the THC to be removed. The resulting distillate therefore contains all the cannabinoids, except for the psychoactive molecule.

2) How to use it

First notions of dosage

The higher the percentage of CBD in an oil, the lower the frequency of consumption can be.

It is common to read that the optimal CBD intake for improving one's daily well-being may be 2.5 mg of CBD per kilo per day. However, the quality of the oil must be taken into account, i.e. the majority of the natural cannabinoids must be present in the oil (full/broad spectrum or isolate), so this amount can be reduced.

At Naturalpes, we guide our customers with 0.5mg of CBD/kg/day, and the results in terms of effectiveness are very convincing. You can read our customers' reviews by clicking on this link

A key concept for dosing: bioavailability

Whatever the concentration of CBD in the oil, there are different ways of absorbing it. The answer to the question of dosage lies rather in a key phenomenon: bioavailability. This is the proportion of a substance that reaches the bloodstream of an organism in unchanged form.

Bioavailability

According to numerous studies, the type of use of CBD oil that allows the greatest bioavailability issublingual use. Scientific estimates put the bioavailability at 28-30%, compared to 5-10% for conventional oral use.

3) What is the dosage?

Dosage according to use

In order to improve one's daily well-being, a person can use CBD products on a regular basis, in small amounts. In the case of peaks, the dosage is optimised to deliver a large dose in a minimum amount of time.

It is therefore necessary to adapt the dosage according to the use but also to several factors:

  • the weight of the consumer,
  • body chemistry
  • theintensity and origin of the malaise,
  • and also, as mentioned above, the composition of the CBD oil.

Specialists recommend that newcomers start with a lower dosage than the average dosage and gradually increase according to the effects obtained.

What does the scientific literature say?

In its global report on cannabidiol published in 2018, the WHO explains that in the scientific literature, the dosage can vary from several tens of milligrams per day to 800 mg per day.

Depending on the weight of the subject and the desired effects, the average effective doses often start to be felt from 30 mg to 40 mg per day.

The first step is to identify the appropriate daily dosage.

Secondly, you need to find out the mg of CBD contained in one, which depends on the CBD concentration of the different oils. This information can be found in the information associated with each product on the Naturalpes website.

To identify the number of drops to use per day, divide the average daily dosage by the amount of CBD in one drop.

Example for 0.5mg/kg/day:

If the appropriate daily dose for you is 50 mg and one drop of Wellness 20% oil contains 10 mg of CBD, divide 50 by 10.

The number of drops to be used in this case is 5.

If the desired result is slow in coming, it is possible to increase the quantity slightly until the desired effect is achieved.

Finally, nothing beats medical support from a health specialist who can advise you on your situation.

Please note that this information is for guidance only and we recommend that you consult your doctor before using any products containing cannabinoids.
